The region of Burgundy is renowned for hospitality and the bourguignons take pleasure in welcoming guests.
Discover the prestigious wines of Burgundy and the local gastronomy. Sample the famous poulet de Bresse, or boeuf charollais.
There are many woods and lakes in the surrounding area, and fishing and hunting are widely practiced.
Visit the Eden Center in the nearby town of Cuisery, where the Regional Council has established a wonderfully educational display of local flora and fauna. You can also go on excursions to the Jura mountains, along the Burgundy canals or on the River Saône.
Saint Germain du Plain is located between the most famous vineyards to the West and the Bresse and Jura to the East, with Dijon to the North and Mâcon, Beaujolais and Lyon to the South. It is ideally located for exploring a French provincial countryside with an astonishing variety of attractions and the good things of life!
You could decide to go shopping in the larger cities of Lyon or Dijon (also the site of the ancient Palace of the Dukes of Burgundy). Or perhaps you will prefer more rustic itineraries, exploring La Route des Grands Crus (the Road of Great Wines, leading to famous vineyards around Beaune, such as Pommerol, Volnay, Côtes de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin, Chambolle-Musigny and many others ), visiting medieval churches (the Abbey of Cluny, the Abbey St Philibert in Tournus, l’église de Brou in Bourg-en-Bresse…), or discovering the châteaux of Cormatin, Couches and others…
In addition to wine-tasting and the local gastronomy, to be discovered in typical little auberges or in some of the most famous french restaurants (Greuze in Tournus, Lameloise in Chagny, Blanc in Vonnas), you can make the best of sporting activities : golf at the beautiful golf course of Chalon sur Saône, swimming (in summer, families can relax at the Lac de Laives across the River Saône, with games for children), fishing, tennis, horse-riding, pleasure boating on the river and the canals, hot-air ballooning .
Autumn is the time for bric-a-brac fairs, when people from all parts of France, as well as neighbouring countries, come to the Bresse in search of a unique find at a good price.
